Description:

 Meet Gretchen!

Gretchen is a cute 5-year old female Dachshund who arrived at the shelter along with her best friend in the world, Bridget.
She and Bridget are very bonded with each other, and were sharing a kennel at the shelter. Gretchen was visibly upset when Bridget had to go  outside for pictures and was overjoyed when they were reunited :) This little cutie is such a lovebug with the sweetest personality. Gretchen loves, loves, loves attention,  and she loves to snuggle in your arms.

After the first meeting Gretchen and Bridget's foster mom had with these two ladies, her heart immediately went out to Gretchen. Gretchen melted into her arms for snuggles. Gentle and relaxed, content just to be a lap pup as long as her buddy Bridget is nearby. Gretchen's little outdoor coat makes her look like a waddling burrito. Gretchen relies on Bridget quite a bit.

After the first evening in the foster home, Bridget endeared herself to the foster mom, too. She is the one who asks to go outside for the both of them. Her first priority is Gretchen. Right now Bridget is still in her transition period and is hesitant to receive affection when it is offered. She will raise her right paw (always the right) and wait for a human to cover the gap for interaction. She may be uncertain if a human is going to be nice - yet wanting closeness, ultimately you can't help but feel protective of her.

These two wonderful ladies are going to blossom beautifully in a forever home that offers an abundance of love, safety and security. So far they have only ever received each from the other. With a family they will only have more love to share!

After Gretchen's last veterinary appointment she was diagnosed with IVDD. Inter-Vertebral Disk Disease will require diligent awareness of Gretchen's physical state. If you are interested in learning more, please take some time to Google IVDD and general precautions to take for Gretchen's continued wellbeing

There is an adoption fee discount if Bridget and Gretchen are adopted together - $500 adoption fee for both.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
