Description:

Meet Bear!

* Housetrained!
*
Friendly with everyone including men and kids - a quintessential FAMILY DOG!
* A champion cuddler!
* A gentleman around the house - no destructive behavior and great manners!
* Proficient in the game of "fetch": fetches toys AND drops them in front of you!

He was surrendered by his owners when they moved and couldn't take Bear with them. Bear also had a bad case of fleas and needed to be shaved down. His hair is now coming back nicely and he's feeling handsome again.

Bear is very funny and friendly. He loves his people and gets along well with dogs, cats and kids.

Update from the foster home:

Bear is a wonderful boy: energetic, intelligent, eager to please and learn new things, and super-friendly.  He has settled in very nicely and gets along well with 2 resident Toy Poodles, being respectful of their smaller size and their space.  Bear is learning the leash discipline very quickly.  He is housetrained on a schedule. He has now graduated to sleeping at night in the human bed.  Bear is kenneled during the day when people are at work, with no accidents, but he is not a huge fan of a kennel and will cry for a little bit before settling down.

As a typical Papillon, Bear is inquisitive and very intelligent, but he is not too intense. He is active when everyone around him is active, but when the time is to relax and watch TV, Bear is happy to curl up next to you and snooze.

He has nice house manners, doesn't chew anything other than dog toys and only when he is encouraged to play with them. He politely waits to be invited up on the bed or couch. Bear always comes when called (and we secretly hope the resident dogs learn this behavior from him).

Bear is playful and enjoys a happy game of fetch. He barks a little, but only when there is a reason to, like someone is at the door or a bunny outside the window or a dog passing by. Once he sees who is visiting, he wags his tail and befriends everyone. Bear is super-friendly even with strangers - he was all over the handyman who came to my house the other day and tried to convince him to take him home! Bear likes women, men and children and would make a FANTASTIC FAMILY DOG .

Recently, Bear took advantage of a warm day and visited a dog park. To his surprise, there were about 50 large dogs there gathered for the Husky and Malamutes club get together. No problem for Bear! He huddled and mingled with the large fluffies, worked the crowd,  and got a lot of attention. Check out his new videos from that visit.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
