Description:

Sarge is 40 pounds of the sweetest pup you will ever meet.  He LOVES everyone and everything he meets and loves to give kisses and butt wiggles in exchange for hugs and pets.

Sarge loves other dogs so much, we are hoping to find him a home with another dog so he can play and never have to be alone again.

Here is an update from Sarge's foster family!

Sarge is doing well. He loves to be around people, especially kids. He
hardly barks, mainly during play and he absolutely not a good watchdog
because he either welcomes everyone at the door or he sleeps through it!

He has gotten many comments from people about how calm he is. He has seen
a couple cats and hasn't been able to reach one but seems really
interested in them.

We have gone to the dog park a couple times now. He seems to just be
learning how to play. Sarge wags his tail the most when other dogs are
around. He was a little shy the first couple times but now he plays
pretty well and loves to run free. He seems to wear out very easily so I
further his walks a little more each time we go out during the day.

Sarge sleeps on his back, it's quite cute. However, Sarge does not like
to be without his humans. He is a wonderful, sweet dog.

UPDATE FROM SARGE'S ADOPTIVE HOME, JULY 23RD, 2011:

Things are really going great with Sarge!  We enrolled him in obedience
classes and he attended three before he had a bit of a meltdown.  One of
the instructors was trying to demonstrate something and Sarge just couldn't
handle having a stranger handle him.  We took him out of class for a few weeks
and let him spend more time getting comfortable with us and then returned to
class.  This time he did beautifully and graduated from the class!  He has an
invitation to continue on in the advanced obedience class and we are thinking
about it for the fall.  He is so sweet and loving that he is just a joy to have in
our family.  My husband takes both Sarge and his younger "sister" Sigi out
everday for about a two hour walk.  We have a walking path less than a block
from our home and they have explored a lot of that.  Sarge still has occaisional
anxiety when he feels the need to stand on his hind legs and "hug" whichever
family member is closest, but those episodes seem to be limited to times when
there is another, unfamiliar dog around or when we return from being gone for
a while.  He does great being kennelled when we go to church or grocery shopping
or something like that and he did great when we boarded both dogs at Rio Gran
in Hastings when we had to go out of town for a weekend.  By the way, that was a
FABULOUS place to board the dogs! He also does quite well when we take him to
the groomers.  I always make sure that Sigi goes with him even though she just
doesn't need the grooming that he does because her coat isn't as heavy as his.
He goes every couple of months to get the extra fur out so that he is more
comfortable and of course to look spiffy!

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
