This little girl just showed up on someone's farm land down in Iowa, wandering around on her own.  It is suspected that a local breeder who is "getting rid" of his dogs, dumped her in the country, as he has done this in the past. 

Katy is a petite girl, weighing only about 50 pds.  She is estimated to be about 18 months old.  You can see how stunning she is - what gorgeous coloring!  Katy is very shy and timid.  She will need some patient and slow work to bring her out of her shell and get her a little more socialized.

Katy has shown some fear and fear aggression so her adoptive family MUST be experienced with the shepherd breed and this type of behavior.  They must also be willing and able to continue her training and socialization to help her build confidence and trust. 

Katy requires a special home so we must be very selective in her placement.  We apologize if you are not the home for Katy and hope you will keep on searching our site until you find your perfect match.

UPDATE FROM KATY'S ADOPTIVE HOME OCTOBER 16TH, 2011:

Since I came home with her a little over a year ago, Chia has made
tremendous progress and has been a wonderful companion. I can't
stress enough though how important MARs' early attention to her
special needs and placement is - she still has lots of behavior
quirks - and their care in finding the right home environment has
been a blessing to us both! Even though there is a lot of room for
improvement, watching her progress has been so rewarding.  Thanks to
MARs and her foster folks for bringing her out of a bad place and
putting her on the road to being the beautiful German Shepherd she
has the potential to be.
