Description:

Hopper is a happy young and active dog.  He loves being by his human and getting belly rubs and cuddling after a day of playing.  His personality still has plenty of puppy in him, and he loves to chase the ball and run up and down the yard as fast as he can when he first gets outside.  His second favorite activity is going on walks on his leash.  He is a great leash walker and sometimes you don't even know he's on the end of the leash because he is so respectful of his human.

After stretching his legs he will plop down and sleep right on your feet (if he can).  He knows how to sit, shake, and lay down, and is house trained as long as there is a consistent schedule in feedings and going outside.  He is always looking for his treat and will sit with his tail wagging watching for them. He is good with other dogs, as long as they are fed separately.  He can live with other dogs, but would be better as an only dog as his personality is huge, and he thinks he is the star of the show, and will try to put himself in the alpha position immediately.  He does ok with children, however since he is still very puppy in spirit and can play hard and not know his play could be too much for little children.

He lived with dogs, children, cats, and chickens.  He naturally wanted to chase the cats and chickens, but after coaching from his human, he knows that he can't chase them.  He can live with cats, but he seems to forget that trying to play with them will result in scratches on his nose, and this makes him a hard learner of cats.  However, he can live with them mostly peacefully.

Hopper does not do well with being left alone for long periods of time outside a kennel.  He does best when he has a lot of chew toys and bones to keep him occupied and will work on a bone for hours until it's gone or he decides to hide it.  His biggest wish in life is a human life partner who is as excited to see him as he is to see them. He definitely wants to sleep by his human, and letting him sleep in the bed makes him the happiest dog in the city. Otherwise, he needs to sleep in his kennel as he likes to find mischief if he misses his human and can't sleep by them.

He is wired to want to make his human happy and find that comfort in closeness in play and cuddling. He has a natural smile and he wears his emotions in his eyes.  They sparkle and light up when you walk in the room.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
