Hi, this is Jasmine but her real name is actually Lucy, and we call her Lucy Goosie. She is a gem! She is a very sweet and loving older Schnoodle (Schnauzer/Poodle) gal. She is looking for a quiet and gentle home, with a person or people to love her and a soft bed to nap in.

Goosie's one mission in life is to love and be loved. She is a Velcro dog who is always nearby - a perfect sweet companion. She will follow you around the house, even undeterred by stairs, and, once she figures you're stationary on a couch, she will curl up near you and take a nap. Goosie will do best in a quiet household without a lot of comings and goings, as she is always underfoot and doesn't jump out of the way quickly enough. Her foster mom often feels a gentle touch from someone's nose on her leg - that's Goosie! She looks up at her humans expectantly, as if saying, OK, time to pet me, pleeeeease. She loves everyone, especially her little 5 year old human foster sister, and greets the delivery men, so friendly! Her tail is always wagging.

Goosie is housetrained and does not bark unless she sees a dog on a walk, and even then, it's just a quick hello bark. She has human bed priviledges and snoozes the entire night without a peep until her foster mom wakes up and takes her and the resident dog outside.  She walks very well on leash.

She may be a picky eater, but her foster mom starts out her breakfast and dinner via hand-feeding a few pieces, and then Goosie eats the rest by herself. Her pickiness disappears in the kitchen where she wishes she could help you cook dinner and eat human food, silly goose.

We estimate Lucy to be about 11 years old. She has some hearing loss, although you really never need to call her (remember - Velcro!), and if she wandered off into the hall, her foster mom claps her hands and Goosie promptly returns. There is a bit of cloudiness in her eyes, early stages of cataracts typical in older dogs. She will be getting a dental cleaning soon to make sure her teeth are in good condition. Goosie does not play with toys or fetch, and is really made to be a companion to adults and not a playmate for kids.

****IMPORTANT INFORMATION*** Goosie was diagnosed with myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) when the veterinarian was checking her heart and heard murmur. She is on medication that helps delay the progression of this disease. MMVD is found in about 10% of small dogs and approximately 75% of dogs with this disease ultimately die of something else or old age. Interested adopters need to be aware that there is a chance of this leading to a congestive heart failure, and plan to provide proper veterinary care to Goosie so she lives out her golden years. This includes monthly medication expenses of approximately $50 plus the cost of electrocardiogram diagnostics and other potential expenses.

Please let us know if you are comfortable with this information and ready to adopt Goosie and care for her.

We are a foster based rescue located in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. We do require adoptions to physically take place at our adoption center and do not provide transport of any of our animals. If you are not local to us we encourage you to look at rescues and shelters in your area as many animals are in need across the United States.

  or

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
