PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION - THIS DOG HAS A UNIQUE BACKGROUND.
SUNG'S PRESENT: Sung is a sweet, affectionate, cheerful little buddy. He loves his people and enjoys all the attention. In his foster home, he adores a 4-year-old little girl who is dog-savvy. Sung is an accomplished fetch player and actually brings the toy back and drops it at your feet. When he's not playing or following his humans around, he enjoys a nap in his bed or on the couch. Sung doesn't have a mean bone in his body, but sometimes growls and is easily corrected. Here is an example of such situation: he wants to meet other people and dogs on a walk, but because of the pandemic, this is not possible, so he stares at them from the end of his leash and growls a little. The foster mom pulls on the leash a little and says, no, so Sung stops. He is a good, smart boy. Sung is housetrained on a schedule. Sticking to a routine will help him maintain these skills. During this time, his foster mom works from home, so he's only kenneled for short periods of time. Sung is not a fan of his kennel, and looks very sad going into it. But, as with any routine, if it's consistent, it's likely to stick, so Sung is getting better about it. He will, however, bark in the kennel, at least at the beginning while he hears his humans leaving the house, so a home without shared walls is recommended. At night, he sleeps in the human bed, and assumes the role of the canine alarm clock in the morning. He really enjoys his walks. After a walk, he flies up the stairs, finds one of his toys, and then it's time for zoomies! When you spend time with Sung, it is not obvious that he's a survivor of a dog meat farm experience. He sometimes gets starled by a sudden move or a loud noise. Overall, Sung is wonderful and well-adjusted. However, an experienced dog person or family would be best for Sung, because they would be able to recognize any signs of returning insecurity or the need to gently correct a behavior, and will allow Sung to continue thriving and enjoying being a family member. *************************** SUNG'S HISTORY: Sung made his #MARSRoadHome journey from a Meat Market Farm in South Korea that housed over 200 dogs. Some of them are, quite literally, leftovers no rescue or shelter could/would take. With the help of The Humane Society International (HSI) and other rescues working together - this meat farm has come to an agreement to close FOR GOOD at the end! HSI local campaign manager in South Korea has confirmed “all the dogs are healthy, accounted for, and given nutritious food until we are able to close the farm and bring them to safety.” According to HSI, "South Korea is the only country in Asia to exclusively factory-farm dogs for eating, in appallingly deprived conditions. In other countries the majority of dogs are pets, working/farm dogs or street dogs, stolen for the trade...When we reach an agreement with the farmer, the farm is shut down permanently and the cages are destroyed. We sign a legally-binding contract with the farmer to ensure they will never return to farming dogs or any other animals. We develop a business plan with them to help them transition to a humane livelihood. HSI has shut down 13 dog meat farms in South Korea, so far."
FROM SUNG'S FOSTER MOM: Because Sung has never had anything of his own - a bed, a toy, a person to love him - he sometimes get possessive of those things and his foster mom, and tries so hard to keep others from coming near those. It is important that his forever person or family understands the reasons for this behavior and has experience and patience to train Sung how to share.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
