Description:
Meet Elias!

Eli has been with us for a little under a month now and he has come so far in a short time! He truly is one of the best dogs I have ever had in my life and I have had MANY!

He is completely housetrained now! He had two accidents which were 100% our fault the first week. We were not paying attention closely at the two times He was caught in the middle of both incidents, and taken outside calmly and he finished his business outside and has never came close to doing that again! We did not yell at him nor scold him either time! He learns without any harshness!

He was staying in his crate nightly at first and it took him about a week and a half to really adjust to being comfortable all night in there, mostly I think because he is a big dog and likes to stretch out when sleeping! Now he sleeps out in the living room and the hardest part about that is getting him up at 7:30am to go out! If we let him, I bet he would sleep until 9 or 10am! The Bum! LOL

He truly is a wonderful guy to have around! He Loves my 4 year old even though she pokes and prods at him all the time! If he has had enough he just gets up and walks away and lays elsewhere! My 6 year old he loves even more since she gets the "let him have his space" idea. He gets excited when she comes home and lets her lay next to him and sometimes ON him! My 12 year old son is his favorite younger human to hang with though! You see, my son takes him on walks all the time and lets him hang out with a couple of young little hotties! A Shitzu and a bulldog!

As far as my wife goes, she has made the biggest impact on Eli so far! She stays at home and takes great care of him and our kids all day! And he loves to play with her and gets very happy when she hangs out with him! She spoils him with soft dog food mixed with the hard food, since he didn't know what to do with the hard food at first. Sometimes now he will eat the hard alone but mostly wants it mixed! She also spoils him with blankets and pillows and cots! And of course he is on his third new collar since getting him! Gotta have accessories right? :-)

As for me, when I get home he jumps up, comes to the door, wagging and wiggling, and a big smile on his face! However he still cowers at first when I go to pet him! Past experiences are hard to over come!

Eli has done a lot to get over his fears. He now will get into the car almost every time without help! He even hopped up into the back of my Tahoe yesterday when I picked him up from getting neutered! I didn't expect that or I would have not have let him so soon after surgery~! Usually he just walks in, even uses the running boards! He must have been REALLY excited to get out of there and go home! He will now go into any PetCo or other building with his head up and walk around calmly. He has ridden an elevator at my work and at home! He meets others dogs perfectly! He has played with them as well! But, not for long though because then he comes over and hangs out with us! He is a real flock overseer!

Bottom line is Eli has taken our hearts and shown us how nearly perfect he can be and gets through new experiences wonderfully! I mean this from the bottom of my heart, if you are lucky enough to adopt Eli he will enrich your life! All you need is a fenced in yard preferably, nice pets at home or none, kids or not, and a lot of love to give and he will return it for life unconditionally!

P.S. He is even nice to cats he met in a home and a rabbit at PetCo....can you believe it...he likes cats!? Go Figure!

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
