Description:

Hi, I am Java!

I was rescued from a hoarder home where we were not getting attention or vet care. I am now hoping to live out my golden years in a great home where my person or people are home a lot and I could keep them company curled up in my dog bed. A retired household would be my dream.

I am a polite older gentleman, hard of hearing, feel a bit stiff in the morning, is gentle and friendly and am all about my human companion(s). I follow my foster mom around the house and am happiest when I am in the same room with her. And once I see she's nearby, I like to take a nap in my doggie bed or on the couch next to her. I do well with calm dogs, but prefer humans to canines for company.

I have a playful streak in me, but am calm and occasionally like to chew on a toy or bone. I don't  like to be separated with my humans and sometimes quietly cry or bark when they leave, but do settle down - so I am probably not an apartment dweller. I am not a fan of being crated. I will stay put and won't have an accident, but really hate being there. A doggie bed near my person is my most favorite place to be.
I am housetrained on a schedule but prefer to be let outside every 3 hours. I earned human bed priviledges and sleep at night curled up there without a peep.

I am docile and friendly. I get along great with a respectful toddler in my foster home and let her hug me. She does not expect me to romp around and fetch and be puppy-like, thank goodness, because that's not what I do. I would be best in a quiet home without too much comings and goings. I have very little hearing but am a pro at non verbal queues and watch for direction from my humans. I know that a hand extended toward me means "come over". And, unless I am resting in my doggie bed, I am nearby anyway.

I love to take a bath, go for a car ride or a walk. I do well on a leash, no pulling, and enjoy long walks in the park. I would absolutely love to find a forever home where I could be a companion to a mature person or couple who are home most of the day, like to take walks, would let me into their hearts, so I could return their love 100-fold.

Thank You!

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
