Hi Family! You found me!!!

My name is Karla and I've been waiting for you. Until we can meet in person, let me tell you all about what a sweet, friendly, playful, and affectionate hound mix I am.

I love toys! You can see in my pictures how I like to play with and chew on toys. I especially like kongs, tennis balls, antlers, nylabones, and squeakers. I have my own basket full of toys, and love to take them out one by one to play with (I still need to learn how to put them away when I'm done!). My foster mom doesn't let me play with stuffed toys though, because I have so much fun pulling out all the stuffing and then get confused about other soft things in the home being toys (like pillows).

My coat is short, smooth and shiny - so easy to take care of! I'm mostly black with some beautiful brown markings on my face, chest and legs. I have long legs and a long slender body, but can curl up in a tiny little ball when I'm sleeping.

To stay healthy and happy, I take daily walks with my foster mom. She says I'm doing good with the help of my gentle leader. I can tell when she's getting ready for a walk, and I sit patiently at the front door to let her know that I want to go too. I like to sniff the ground and look around for friends to meet.

I found another way to earn treats and get my energy out - I hop on the treadmill and start walking! Check out my video below. I like doing this on really cold days instead of freezing my paws outside. My average "workout" is about 10-14 minutes at a pace of 2.5-3.0 miles per hour!

One of my favorite parts of the day - SNUGGLE TIME! I'll snuggle with anyone who lets me! As soon as any of my family sits on the couch, I'm there beside them. I like to lean up real close and put my head in their laps. Being close to people really makes me happy!

I know to go potty outside, not in the house. I tell my family I need to go potty by going to the glass door to the backyard and sitting patiently, sometimes if they don't see me waiting, I scratch at the door or make a little whine or bark.

At night, I can sleep all night without a potty break. I really like to sleep near a family person if I'm allowed! But I will also sleep on the floor or on the couch near my foster dog sister if I have to.

I love treats and praise, so I am a good learner. My foster mom thinks I would enjoy going to something called "obedience training" so I can learn even more about how to be a good girl, and how to meet new people without jumping all over them. This sounds pretty awesome to me, so I hope you'll consider taking me there!

Since I am very friendly, and can be a bit clumsy with my long legs and whipping tail, I might need help interacting with kids under 5 so I don't accidently hurt them! During play time I sometimes put my mouth/teeth on the human hands, but am starting to understand that's not how humans want to play. I need a family who will continue to teach me good manners!

I am crate trained - when I see my special crate treat, I run right in and wait for my treat! Because of my interest in "stuffed" toys - which means pillows, dog beds, blankets, and cushions - my foster mom says I'm not yet ready to have free roam of the house when everyone's away. She tells me - "maybe when you're a little older..." I can't wait to meet you! I love you already, and I'll show you just how much the first time we meet!!

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
